ABOUT US
Our History
In 1952 Frank and his two sons, Jack and Ray were the beginning of what is now known as Herb Sheet Metal. Frank and Ray put a written bid in for the David High Metal Shop at 317 S. 6th St., Lebanon, PA for $6,000. Even though the asking price was $8,500, they had the winning bid.
Ray then went into the air force leaving Frank and Jack to run the shop until he got out in late 1953 or early 1954. At that point, the business was doing sheet metal, roofing, and they had a hardware store at the front of the shop. The name of the business was Frank L. Herb & Sons. After a couple of years, the name changed to Herb Hardware, Sheetmetal, & Roofing.
In the next 12 – 15 years, as the business grew, it split into three different companies, Mutual Wholesale, Herb Roofing, and Herb Sheet Metal. In 1962 Herb Sheet Metal was moved to the southeast corner of 5th and Green St., along the Quittapahilla Creek. After the flood from hurricane Agnes in 1972 the shop moved to 420 Pershing Ave., then in 1989 it moved again to its current location, 630 N 5th St.
It is still owned and operated by the Herb family. Jack Herb, Sr. passed away in 1996 leaving his son Jack Herb, Jr. to run the business. In 2023 Jack Herb, Jr. retired and passed the business to his son Steve Herb, Sr. As of 2023, the business still employs Herbs, some of which are the 4th and 5th generation.
